Kekaha Kai State Park

Located on the north Kona airport on the island of Hawaii, Kekaha Kai State Park is a massive beach park that has a lot to offer its visitors. This park has a smattering of beaches that all offer a beautiful oceanside view and prime locations for enjoying water sports. If you are up for some walking, there is a gentle 8.5 mile hike that allows you to see the whole park in one go. Along the hike you will get to visit three spectacular beaches, a black sand beach, two ponds and climb a 350 foot cinder cone for an excellent view of the entire state park. There are three trailheads to access this hike at Kua Bay, Makalawena Beach and Mahai'ula Bay. If you want a hike that is shorter, there are also several other trailheads scattered throughout the park.

While the park is a popular tourist destination, the area is so massive that it is quite easy to find secluded spots if one desires. The road to the parkis quite rocky, so it is best to rent a 4X4 to get there, otherwise you will risk damaging your vehicle. This park is a great place to go for both nature lovers and beach dwellers.
